Good Friday

It was a foggy, dreary drive to church this morning for the Good Friday service. On the way home we drive through a park and enjoyed the hoarfrost on the trees.

Getting The Takeout Menu

We are going to order Chinese for supper tonight from our favourite neighbourhood restaurant. However we forgot to get the menu out of the drawer before we worked on the floor. So Arthur had to do some fancy gymnastics to get it.

I could have cropped the photo but I wanted to leave in as much floor visible as possible. (That plywood square on the lower right is where the stove goes. It will be covered.)

Doesn't the floor look great?

Kitchen is a No-Go Zone

As we are redoing the kitchen floor, we are cleaning and cooking elsewhere.

We've already eaten out once (Filipino diner) and blown a fuse (microwave and rice cooker on high).

We are really happy with the result of the floor so far.

Starting to Quilt

Guess who is learning how to piece a quilt?

It looks great for a first attempt!

First Day Of Spring

A week or two ago a coworker sent me an email and she ended by saying "Spring is just around the snow bank!" Since then I've fallen into a snowbank and experienced it more closely than I'd like to have.

There seems to be no end to this winter. We had 15 cm of snow on Monday. This morning the temperature was -23 plus a windchill. When people have been wishing me a happy spring, I'm at a loss for how to respond.

We've got ice dams on the front porch. Last weekend the boys had to sweep off the roof with a broom that has a very long handle.

Yesterday when the snowplow went down the back lane it deposited a nice heavy ridge of solid snow right in front of the garage.

So, I've been in the snow bank and shovelled the snow bank. My question is: "Where is Spring?"

Found: Hardwood

We have sticker tiles on our kitchen floor. We like the pattern that the previous owners choose but they have started to come up at the corners so it is time to do something with the floor.

We weren't sure what was under there- may plywood or worse - but we were delighted to find that it's a lovely hardwood just like the rest of the main floor of the house. So now Arthur is methodically removing sticker tiles one- by-one. The tiles come off easily-- the stickiness not so much.
