Celebrating 20 Years of Marriage

Arthur and Phyllis
December 23, 1988
to December 23, 2008

20 Friends
20 Years
We had a party where we asked people to wear what they might have worn in the 1980's. We had a program which included a quiz about our lives called "For Better or For Worse." We sang "I Got You Babe" and all the guys had to wear mustaches just like Sonny Bono. We ended our program with each person holding a lit candle and we sang some songs. Many of these things also happened at our wedding (except we didn't sing a Sonny and Cher song). The menu was similar to that winter evening way back in 1988.

Merry Christmas
From Our House to Yours!

We wish you lots of JOY
this holiday season
and throughout next year.

Just as the angel said,
"Behold,
I bring you good tidings of great JOY,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day
in the city of David
a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord. "

Background to the Bench:

We borrowed this bench from Arthur's parents when we painted our bedrooms. It was white and beaten up-- good for painting. As we were painting Erik's room green and Conrad's room red, it struck me that these were classic Christmas colors. At the time I was also working on a talk about JOY for a Christmas brunch at church. One thing led to another and now Arthur's parents have a JOY bench. They are a little disappointed they lost that great painting bench but I think they'll get over it!

We were out one Sunday afternoon
for a drive and this is what the
landscape looked like.
It's quite different from the
scenery here in July.
(You can compare with the
archives from July.)

It looks like we'll be having a White Christmas!
Out our window we can see the United Church.
We don't go to this church.
Our church is much further away.

The view down our street.

Looking out the kitchen window.

Conrad standing in snow without making any foot prints.
How did he do that?

Erik

Erik got baptised one Sunday in November. First he had to give his testimony and then he was immersed by Pastor Joel, the youth pastor who went on the canoe trip with the boys in August.

We moved!

Our moving van drove right through the intersection at Portage Avenue and Main Street -- one of the most famous intersections in Winnipeg. All of Arthur's experience as a farm boy driving big machinery came in handy while negotiating the 26 foot van.

We didn't take pictures of the moving days when many of our friends and family came to help us. We were too busy to get out the camera.

Our first five days in the new house didn't include furniture so we all slept in the living room on air mattresses.

Why the long wait for a new posting?
A lot has happened in the past months but we've had trouble writing about it because our computer was in the shop. After some long waits, we finially got a new hard drive and then later a new motherboard. So basically it's a new computer. We've had it back for about a week and so far, so good.
