Lao and Thai Food

This month, the meal we shared with Mom and Dad was from Laos and Thailand.

We invited Ian and Angela and their kids because they'd also been to visit us in Laos and we knew they enjoyed the food. Also, I was thinking that some of the final cooking might take us away from our guests so it would be good to have some other people to distract them while we panicked in the kitchen. The kids filled that gap nicely!

Our Menu included:

Sticky Rice
Spring Rolls
Tom Yam
Ping Gai
Jeo
Laap Gai
Thai Green Curry
Tom Muk Huom

We ended with a fruit plate.
Anglea also brought a rhubarb and icecream dessert.
(Not Asian but very delicious.)

A House in Transition

It's not our house!

Our former neighbors (from before we moved to Laos) are doing severe renovations to their house this summer.

They are adding a full second story and completely gutting the main floor. They are moving all the main floor rooms counter-clockwise. So the kitchen moves into the dining room which moves into the living room which moves into the bedrooms which move upstairs. Only the bathroom is staying where it was.
We went over one evening and brought them enjera and two wats (Ethiopian bread with stews) and shared it in their former dining room on the floor. Then we stayed and helped pull nails, bash plaster, sweep and sweat.
