Jewelry Cabinet

Just recently Arthur hung up the jewelry cabinet he made for me many years ago. Up until now it had been tucked away on the floor in a corner of the bedroom. Now that it is up I realize how much jewelry I have and don't wear. So I'm trying to expand my accessory choices and not just wear the same things over and over.

Most of it is brass, wood, clay, bone, glass or amber. Nothing valuable any way you look at it except in terms of bringing back memories or just being odd or interesting.

Winterize the Windows

This winter has been going on so long -- and there seems to be no end in sight. The slight hope we have has to do with the sun: more hours of sunlight and a different angle of sunshine.

You might be tired of another post about the winter but we are even more tired of the actual winter.

So we've decided to do something about it. We are ordering new windows for the basement windows. We are tired of the drafts.

Still Winter in Winnipeg

We woke up today to -19 C. That's a nice winter day. But this is April 9. It's discouraging.

One theory that I heard recently is that we are going to go straight from winter to summer. Just skip spring altogether.

In the Winnipeg Free Press this morning it said, "It's the new spring, much colder than than the old spring."

Clarification on the Floor Work

There has been some concern from friends about Arthur working on the floor while he is recovering from the neck injury. I want to set the record straight. He took off the sticker tiles and wiped the glue off with a solvent. It was kind of like wiping a counter or table - except he was on the surface he was wiping.

Erik, Conrad and I moved all the appliances. I did all the sanding and scraping.

Arthur did the staining and varnishing with a brush on a broom handle while standing. It was pretty cool.

He is still being really careful. The rest of us are doing the lifting and carrying. It is top of mind.
